Bacon and Eggs can be a reasonably healthy breakfast, but what about if you eat them every morning?
I did. Each morning for approximately twelve years, I ate bacon and eggs before working at 5 am. I even ate them on my day off.
It was filling and sustaining. Furthermore, I stopped going through the checkout lane on my break to pick up a diet soda and snack, usually something sweet.
A co-worker said he’d been eating bacon and eggs for breakfast for over 40 years. So I thought I’d give it a try.
Lately, though, I’ve been wondering if it is healthy to eat them every day.
Are you wondering the same thing?
Let’s see what we find.

Is It Okay to Eat Bacon and Eggs Every Morning?
Eating bacon and eggs every morning may be okay. Eggs are healthy, and bacon has some health benefits. But bacon also has possible risks, mainly because it’s processed. So, whether you should eat it every morning depends on several factors. How many eggs and slices of bacon are you eating? What is your overall health, lifestyle, and physical activity? What else do you eat with your bacon and eggs or during the rest of the day? And finally, what are the bacon and eggs replacing?
It Depends…
In and of themselves, bacon and eggs are okay to eat. Even Livestrong agrees that eating them a few times a week can be part of a healthy diet. However, if you want to eat them every morning to be healthy, there are a few things to consider.
- What are you eating the rest of the day – do you generally eat healthily and in moderation?
- How many eggs and slices of bacon will you eat – one serving is one egg and two pieces of bacon.
- What else will you eat with your bacon and eggs – toast, orange juice, fruit, or sweet roll?
- What is your overall health – are there health issues that might make this daily meal unhealthy?
- Are the bacon and eggs replacing a less healthy breakfast such as donuts or other sugar-laden breakfast foods?
- How your body responds to a high fat, high protein, low carb meal – some bodies do better with more carbs.
- If you are okay with eating the same thing every morning – some people will get bored.

Why Bacon and Eggs Every Day Can Be Healthy
Eating bacon and eggs every morning can be healthy because it’s filling. If you feel full and satisfied, you won’t want to snack before the next meal.
And when your stomach feels satisfied, you’re in a better mood. You don’t get “hangry.”
Some people think they would get bored eating the same meal every morning. But that’s what’s great about eggs; they’re versatile.
You can fry, scramble, boil, or make them as an omelet. You can even add vegetables to an omelet to further add to its goodness.
Eggs are high in protein, which helps build and maintain muscle tissue.
Additionally, eggs contain many essential vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and antioxidants.
Experts told us to limit the amount of eggs we ate for years because of the cholesterol. But now, researchers have determined that dietary cholesterol doesn’t have as much of an effect on our blood cholesterol levels as they previously thought.
So, now you can enjoy their benefits more often.
Bacon is moderately healthy because it contains healthy fats, including oleic acid. Oleic acid is why avocados are so good for you.
And some claim bacon’s pleasant smell and umami taste just make you feel happy.
Although it might be better only to eat bacon and eggs a few times a week, you will probably be okay eating them every morning. That is, as long as you watch your portions and make healthy food choices the rest of the day.
What Would Make Eating Them Every Morning Unhealthy
You’ve just read why eating bacon and eggs every morning can be healthy, but that in no way is saying it will be beneficial for you.
Remember the “It depends” above?
If you eat too many portions or otherwise eat unhealthily, bacon and eggs every morning are probably not the best things.
Or if you add loads of cheese, sour cream, or eat a donut with your bacon and eggs, your breakfast is less healthy.
Furthermore, some bodies do better with carbs in their diet. And bacon and eggs have zero carbohydrates.
So you might get full but still have little energy.
Carbohydrates give you energy. Plus, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs.
Adding vegetables to an omelet, eating a piece of whole-wheat toast, or some fruit with your bacon and eggs may be better.
Additionally, bacon is processed, high in salt, and has 40% saturated fat, making it less healthy compared to other meat.
These things are why you might not want to eat bacon every day.
Earlier I told you that I ate bacon and eggs (and blueberries) every morning for over twelve years. I have since cut back to a few times a week, opting instead for a smoothie.
To be honest, I am still trying to figure out what is most healthy for my body.
Wake Up to Eggs With Bacon
Final Thoughts
As you can see, eating bacon and eggs every morning may or may not be okay for you.
If bacon and eggs replace three donuts, that’s a healthy choice.
However, if you eat four eggs and four slices of bacon every time, it’s too much.
Eggs have protein and contain many essential vitamins and nutrients that make them healthy. However, as with any food, portion control is important.
Bacon has good fats making it relatively healthy, but it also has saturated fat, which may contribute to high LDL (bad cholesterol) and heart disease.
Moreover, bacon is processed, making it a less healthy meat.
Therefore, many health experts say that eating bacon and eggs can be a part of a heart-healthy lifestyle as long as you keep it in moderation.
