Hi and welcome to Cast Iron Cooking. Cast iron is a great way to cook and once you learn a few tricks, you will find it to be as easy as using any other pans.  

WHY I STARTED USING CAST IRON

I didn’t grow up with cast iron nor did I use it when my husband and I were raising our children. So why did I start? Well, one evening, our son-in-law came over to our house to cook us dinner. It was in December. He made steaks in a cast iron pan, and as he cooked, he instructed us on the benefits of cast iron. I was intrigued. That Christmas, I asked for a cast iron skillet and I have been using cast iron ever since.

When I first began, I didn’t know you were supposed to season it. Our son-in-law neglected to tell us that part lol. I decided I wanted to cook bacon and eggs. The bacon was delicious, but the eggs completely stuck to the pan. So I went online and did some research. That’s when I discovered seasoning was a key component in successful cast iron cooking. Even now, I am learning more tips and different foods to cook in cast iron.

Seasoning is just one of the many things I will share about cooking with cast iron. 

SHARING WHAT I’VE LEARNED WITH OTHERS IS A JOY

Because I have thoroughly enjoyed using cast iron for many foods, and because the food really does taste better in my opinion, I want others to know the benefits and be able to make an informed decision about using cast iron.

If you are already convinced, I hope to be able to share some tips I’ve learned along the way as well as some recipes I’ve tried and enjoyed. 

CAST IRON IS A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TO OTHER PANS

My goal is to give lots of relevant information about cast iron to help others. Whether you are curious as I once was, just beginning, or have been using cast iron for some time now, I hope you will learn something new or find a new recipe to try.
