Lodge Pan Scraper Review – 2-Pack

Welcome to my Lodge Pan Scraper Review.

Pan scrapers are nice for getting stuck-on food off of your pan.

However, if you’ve never used one, you probably use a spatula, spoon, or scrubby of some sort.

All of those are fine, but none work as well as a pan scraper, in my opinion.

For a long time, I had a square one that had melted on one side from using it consistently on a hot pan.

Finally, I decided it was time to replace it, and I got a Lodge pan scraper.

Same material, but Lodge’s had different angles.

I couldn’t believe how much nicer it was having a pan scraper with angles that worked with the sloped sides of my pan. And for getting into corners. It still had a flat side, too, for the bottom.

So, let’s find out a few other things about the Lodge pan scraper.

What Are Pan Scrapers?

A pan scraper is a small, flat, hard plastic piece that removes food and residue that gets stuck in your pan from cooking. The material makes it safe for all surfaces, and its small size is easy to grip and scrape anywhere in the pan. You can also use pan scrapers on other things, but they are primarily for cookware.

A Little About Lodge

Lodge Cast Iron is a family-owned business in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.

Joseph Lodge founded this company in 1896 and originally called it Blacklock Foundry.

However, after the building burned down in 1910, Joseph rebuilt and renamed the company Lodge Cast Iron.

Over the years, Lodge survived several economic downturns and even thrived when other foundries were closing down.

And as business continued to grow, they built another foundry. The new foundry enabled Lodge to increase its manufacturing production by seventy-five percent.

Lodge makes cast iron and carbon steel cookware, though cast iron remains their primary production.

They offer a large variety of cast iron, including classic, enamel, chef, and Blacklock.

Additionally, Lodge carries bakeware, and several series, all of which are cast iron.

They also have many accessories, such as the pan scrapers in this review.

Lodge continues to be a leading manufacturer worldwide and makes close to 2 million cast iron pans every month.

Answering Your Questions

Are the pan scrapers heat resistant?

No, I wouldn’t say heat resistant. They can certainly handle scraping a warm pan, but they can also melt if in contact with the heat too long. So, it’s better to wait for the pan to cool a bit.

Will this pan scraper work on nonstick pans?

Yes, it is plastic and safely works on all surfaces.

Does the pan scraper work for grill pans?

Yes, but I recommend getting a scraper specifically designed for grill pans. The pan scraper is safe to use but not as effective as the grill scraper.  Fortunately, Amazon offers a Lodge SCRAPERCOMBO; one pan scraper, and one grill scraper.

What other ways besides stuck-on food in pans can you use this scraper?

Pretty much anywhere you might use a scraper to get something unstuck from a surface. The edges aren’t as sharp as a metal scraper, though. Some common uses might be your stovetop or oven, and I’ve even used it on plates. Others mentioned hardened gum, a wok, and an instant pot.

Will the pan scraper fly around in the dishwasher?

It might “fly around,” so most people recommend putting it in the silverware holder or on a second shelf if your dishwasher has one. I haven’t personally washed mine in the dishwasher because it is easy to clean by hand.

How long will one last?

Your pan scraper should last a very long time unless you try to scrape a hot pan and it melts. I can’t imagine one breaking, but I hear it’s possible. And I’ve seen a couple of pictures of ones that have chipped.

Is a pan scraper better than a wooden spoon or spatula?

Yes, a hundred percent better for scraping food and residue stuck to the pan. You have much more control because it’s small, and you can grip the scraper.

Will it scrape off years of built-on carbon from the outside of my cast iron skillet?

No, it will not do that. The scraper is for daily cleaning of food and residue that gets stuck. For cleaning up years of built-on carbon, I would suggest stripping the whole pan and reasoning. There are various ways to strip a pan, and whatever you decide will require reseasoning in the oven. However, I have no personal experience with stripping cast iron.

Are pan scrapers better than chainmail?

Chainmail is only for cast iron, whereas the pan scraper is for all surfaces. Both are for getting off stuck-on food and residue, but chainmail is often unnecessary. Normally I start with the scraper and only use chainmail if it isn’t getting it all. Nine times out of ten, the scraper is enough.

What Others Are Saying

Most people thought the pan scrapers were fantastic. They said things like:

  • This scraper makes cleaning my pans so much easier.
  • I use this little plastic scraper on all my pans.
  • The shape and different angles make it ideal for all types of pans.
  • These would make great stuffing stockers.
  • They are tough and sturdy.
  • The pan scraper works best when you let the pan soak a bit first
  • I use this scraper on my cast iron skillets but also on my stainless steel pans, enameled dutch oven, and my wok.
  • I’ve been using one for a long time now, and it still works as well as when I first bought it.
  • They don’t damage your pan.
  • This little tool is an excellent investment.
  • The small indent in the center makes it so easy to grip.
  • This scraper is better than any other ones I’ve tried.
  • It’s very easy to clean.
  • It works best on light stuck-on food.

Some people were disappointed in the quality and that it wasn’t heat resistant. They said things like:

  • I thought it would be more flexible.
  • It’s much too brittle.
  • Chainmail is more effective.
  • It’s a tiny piece of cheap plastic.
  • An old credit card would work just as well.
  • The edges aren’t sharp enough to remove stuck-on food.
  • My spatula works better.
  • Everyone knows you should clean a pan while it’s hot, which makes this tool useless.
  • It chipped after about ten uses.
  • The edge melted when I tried to scrape my hot pan.
  • There is no warning not to use it on a hot pan.

What Do I Think?

I love my Lodge pan scrapers. As I said earlier, I had another brand that worked very well. However, one edge had melted, and eventually, I decided to replace it.

I didn’t realize how much better I would like the different angles for cleaning the sloped sides of my cast iron skillet and wok.

My guess is that people who didn’t like this product either misunderstand its function or have too high of expectations. It is a scraper and gets off most stuck-on food, but sometimes other methods will work better.

It’s the reason why they also make scrub brushes and chainmail.

My daily cleaning routine for my cast iron pan is:

  • Let the pan cool
  • Wipe out excess grease
  • Scrape any stuck-on food and residue
  • Rinse
  • Use a scrub brush
  • Rinse
  • Sometimes repeat scraping, scrub brush, and rinsing
  • Dry with a lint-free towel
  • Put over the burner for complete dryness
  • Add a bit of oil or just wipe with an oiled towel

The whole process takes 4-5 minutes tops. I know some people do it differently; whatever works best for you.

I mostly use the scraper on my cast iron pans, but sometimes I might scrape my stainless steel. However, I find it most beneficial on cast iron pans.

Furthermore, I’ve had no trouble with melting because I know not to use it when the pan is still hot. And I’ve had no problems with the quality; it looks as good as the day I first got it.

Therefore, I highly recommend the Lodge 2-pack pan scrapers.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for reading my Lodge Pan Scraper Review.

As you can see, most people think this pan scraper makes cleaning their pans easier.

It’s easy to grip and easy to control. Additionally, the pan scraper is dishwasher-safe and has different angles for working with various types of pans. Plus, the polycarbonate material is safe for all surfaces.

However, a few people were disappointed that it wasn’t heat-resistant, or they wanted it to be bigger. So, this pan scraper might not be for everyone.

If you have been using a spoon or spatula for scraping, I encourage you to at least try a pan scraper.

Or, if you are looking to replace a current pan scraper, I recommend the Lodge 2-pack.
