What is a Wok Spatula?

A wok spatula is a kitchen tool designed for use in a wok. It looks like a small shovel and is sometimes referred to as a wok shovel. It is designed to work with the slope of the wok and is bigger than a regular spatula or spoon. It will easily scoop up stirfry or fried rice for serving. At times you’ll use it as a spatula for stirring and other times as a shovel for scooping. It can even be used as a scraper for food that gets stuck to the bottom. However, a stainless steel wok spatula will only work with a wok that has natural seasoning.

A Little About GXONE

GXONE is an Amazon seller from China with an Amazon store. They sell mainly kitchen tools and glassware and seem to do very well.

I couldn’t find any history or website, so there isn’t much to tell you. I chose to review this wok spatula because it is the one I have. And many others have purchased this product as well.

Answering Your Questions

Is the wok spatula flat or curved for scooping sauces?

It has a slight curve, making it ideal for sliding down the sides of the wok, but otherwise, it’s flat. However, it would not do well at holding any liquid or sauces.

Can you use this spatula on any wok?

You can use this spatula on any wok with natural surfaces. I would not use it on a nonstick coating. To be safe, always know what kind of surface your wok has before using this spatula.

Does the handle stay cool during cooking?

The handle is heat-resistant to a point, so it will stay cool unless you leave it resting on the inside of the wok while you’re not using it. But if you put it on the counter when you’re not stirring, it won’t get hot when you do need to use it.

Will it scratch the surface of my wok?

It does leave minor scratches, but it shouldn’t damage any natural surface. However, this might not be the tool for you if you don’t want any scratches. Some people sand down the edges with 600 grit (very fine) sandpaper or use a file, whetstone, and emory cloth, and this seems to be good enough for them. I haven’t noticed any scratches on my wok, but it’s cast iron and may be harder to see.

What Others Are Saying

The reviews at Amazon are mainly positive. This is what they like:

  • Won’t bend when picking up food
  • Holds lots of food
  • Handle doesn’t get hot
  • One-piece construction
  • Handle is comfortable to hold
  • Spatula is easy to clean
  • Its high quality
  • Length of the handle
  • Good value
  • Lightweight
  • Will last a lifetime
  • Fits the curve of the wok perfectly
  • Smooth but not slippery

And this is what they don’t like:

  • Too large for a 14-inch wok
  • Awkward for shorter people
  • Can’t rest the spatula in the wok while cooking (it gets hot)
  • Has sharp edges (scratches the wok)
  • Bottom edge is too thick

Some people found other uses for their wok spatula in addition to cooking in the wok:

  • Works great in an Instant Pot
  • Use as a BBQ utensil on the grill
  • Good pancake turner
  • Can flip eggs and grilled cheese
  • Serve lasagne

And for those who want their spatula to stay shiny, use Bar Keepers Friend.

What Did I Think?

I like mine for stir-frying and fried rice.

It fits the wok perfectly and makes stir-frying easier and more enjoyable. As well as it being lightweight.

I especially like scooping up the food (I find it fun) and am impressed with how much it holds.

Since I don’t rest my spatula in the pan, I haven’t had any issues with it getting hot.

And I haven’t noticed any scratches or even felt like maybe I scratched my wok. However, my wok is cast iron, and scratches would be hard to spot. I am confident I haven’t done any damage to the seasoning, though.

Plus, wouldn’t the oil keep filling in any minor scratches as you spot season it before cooking?

Minor scratches wouldn’t bother me anyway.

I haven’t tried it for anything other than stir-frying, but I like what others came up with.

Overall, I am pleased with my wok spatula and would recommend it (with two cautions).

If your wok is nonstick, don’t use a metal wok spatula. And you may not like this particular one if you’re afraid of minor scratches and are unwilling to smooth out the rough edges yourself.

Although I don’t think mine has rough edges, too many people in the reviews said it did (even among those who really liked the spatula). Maybe I’m just used to using metal on cast iron and am no longer concerned with it getting scratched. If I had carbon steel or stainless steel, would I feel differently? Possibly.

So, if you still want one after reading the cautions, I think you will be happy with it.

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed reading my GXONE Stainless Steel Wok Spatula Review.

And learning more about it.

The wok spatula is like a small shovel and easily slides down the wok.

Its primary purpose is stirring, turning, and pushing the food around while it’s cooking.

Plus, its long, stay-cool handle makes it easier and more enjoyable.

The “shovel” part can pick up a lot of food, and you don’t have to worry about it falling off.

Some people use it for different things, such as turning pancakes or serving larger portions of lasagne. Furthermore, I’m sure there are hundreds of other ways to use it as well.

Because I like having one, and so do many others, I highly recommend the GXONE stainless steel wok spatula.
